Happy Monday everyone! 🙂
Human rights NGO, Amnesty International, has written to the EU’s competition regulator calling for Google’s acquisition of wearable maker Fitbit to be blocked — unless meaningful safeguards can be baked in. The tech giant announced its intent to splash $2.1 billion to acquire Fitbit a year ago but has yet to gain regulatory approval for the deal in the European Union.
TechCrunch reached out to the commission and Google for a response to Amnesty’s letter. Update: A commission spokesperson confirmed it’s received the letter and said it will reply in due course. Update 2: Google declined to comment but a spokesman pointed to a blog post it wrote in August, when it described the deal as about “devices, not data” and said it’s working with the Commission “on an approach that addresses consumers’ expectations of their wearable devices”.

Anthem, Inc. knows that growing your family is an important decision. In addition to the exciting and positive experiences that occur during pregnancy, there are difficulties and struggles that can impact the pregnancy and the overall mother’s health. Some of these difficulties include fertility, postpartum depression, hypertensive disorders, and even maternal mortality.
The Anthem Maternal Health Challenge seeks to work with entrepreneurs and startups to use innovative, evidence-based solutions to transform the current state of maternal health and help make pregnancy as joyous as possible. These solutions should address the multifaceted parts of maternal health that impact mothers before, during, and after childbirth.
