Happy Tuesday, everyone! ๐
When Julie Chin, an anchor for Tulsa, Oklahoma, NBC affiliate KJRH, was anchoring a live broadcast on September 3, when she began to experience difficulty speaking. "I'm sorry," Chin said, interrupting the broadcast to throw it to the station's meteorologist. "Something is going on with me this morning and I apologize to everybody." Chin later shared an update on Facebook, writing that her doctors believe she suffered the "beginnings of a stroke" while on the air.
Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death for women in the United States. One in 5 women between the ages of 55 and 75 will have a stroke, according to the CDC. The highest rates for stroke remain among older populations, and women generally live longer than men, but over the past several decades the stroke rates for younger adults have increased by more than 40%, according to the American Heart Association. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 4 in 5 strokes are preventable in women.
This is why this month we are dedicating our FemTech Untapped webinar and other relevant activities to this particular topic - female cardiovascular health. ๐๐ฝ
Join us to hear from four amazing women and innovative companies on what the future of female cardiovascular health looks like and how tech innovation is helping to shape it.
Our webinar partner for this session is - CVS Health, the leading health solutions company, delivering care as no one else can. They reach more people and improve the health of communities across America through their local presence, digital channels, and over 300,000 dedicated colleagues โ including more than 40,000 physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and nurse practitioners. Wherever and whenever people need us, CVS Health helps them with their health โ whether managing chronic diseases, staying compliant with their medications, or accessing affordable health and wellness services in the most convenient ways. They help people navigate the health care system โ and their personal health care โ by improving access, lowering costs, and being a trusted partner for every meaningful health moment.
